Lucerne

Sunlight breaks apart across the surface of Lake Lucerne. Fujishima Takeji paints the Swiss water in short, bright pulls of white and pale blue, with mountain silhouettes holding a hazy violet line along the far shore. Rooftops of a lakeside town cluster at the lower edge, their warm ochre and terracotta pitches catching the same light as the waves. The brushwork stays loose and quick, a plein air touch that lets the water shimmer while the mountains keep their distance in cooler, softer tone. Every stroke reads as direct observation.
