Lines of Movement and Dynamic Succession

Lines of movement and dynamic succession: streaks of force race across the sheet in overlapping arcs, each contour trailing the one before it. Balla builds the whole image from repetition, the way a wing or a wheel leaves its path behind. Nothing rests. Ink and graphite swell from fine hairline strokes into heavy black wedges, layered so the eye keeps sliding forward, never finding an edge to stop at. Pale paper shows through between the passes, giving speed its negative space. A study wall, a stairwell landing, or a workspace with hard light suits this velocity best.
