Lilacs in a Purse on the Floor

Loose lilac panicles tumble from a slouched purse set right on the floorboards, violet clusters spilling toward the viewer. Pyotr Konchalovsky turns the humble still life into a springtime harvest. Thick impasto dabs pile mauve against periwinkle and deep aubergine, each floret built separately so blossom heads look dense enough to snap off the stem. The bag itself slumps, its clasp undone, leather folds catching light beside glossy green leaves. A hallway or stair landing suits it well, anywhere guests pass close enough to almost catch the painted scent of late spring mornings.
