Lightning

A jagged bolt tears across the sky in Lightning, one of Mikalojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis visions of storm and sky. The whole composition feels charged before the strike has even landed. Ciurlionis builds the scene in sharp contrasts: dark clouds mass at the top, the bolt forks in pale electric lines, and the land below sits in deep shadowed tones. Everything reads like a held breath between thunder and silence. A hallway or stairwell benefits most from its vertical drama, pulling the eye upward through the storm.
