Light Study in the Vault Cellar

A single shaft of daylight drops into the barrel vault of a stone cellar, striking the floor in a pale oval while the masonry around it stays cool. Max Pietschmann builds the study around that one falling beam, letting the rest of the chamber sink into umber shadow. Look closely and the handling carries the picture. Grey mortar joints cross the vault in rhythm, ochre washes warm the lower blocks where dust has settled, and a barred window sits high in the wall, its small grid of gloom cut by the same slanting light. Rough brushwork keeps the plaster surface alive. Hang it where low light already lives, a stairwell, a study, a hallway that ends in shadow, and let the beam do the rest.

A stretched canvas: the image is printed on a cotton-polyester weave (300–350 gsm) and wrapped over FSC-certified wood stretcher bars. A hanging kit is included, so no frame or extra hardware is needed.

Dust with a soft, dry cloth only — avoid water or cleaning products on the canvas face — and keep it out of direct sunlight and away from radiators.

As a guide, a piece hung above furniture should span roughly two-thirds of that furniture width. If you are between two sizes, the larger option almost always reads better on the wall than expected.

Every piece is made to order, then shipped free with tracking. US and Europe/UK orders typically arrive in 4–9 business days; Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore and the UAE in 7–16 business days. A tracking link is emailed as soon as it ships. Full details are on our shipping policy.
