Lifting Fog, Laguna

Fog thins over Laguna Beach while the headland emerges, its eucalyptus crowns still dissolving into silver air. Guy Rose painted the moment of clearing itself. Below, the surf runs in long lavender swells, and wet sand catches a pale gold reflection between breakers. His brushwork stays loose and quick, broken strokes of pearl grey and celadon laid wet into wet, so the vapor seems to keep moving even now. Sunlight breaks through high in the frame, warming one strip of sea. A calm study or sunroom suits this coastal scene, anywhere morning light has room to spread.
