Ledenets

A fantastical ice palace rises in stacked tiers, drawn by Nicholas Roerich under the title Ledenets. Turquoise turrets and frost-white galleries climb toward a pale sky, each roof edged like sugar glass. Cool cerulean and glacial blue dominate the surface, broken by small windows and slender towers that taper almost to needles. Roerich layers his pigment thinly so the cold architectural forms seem carved from one solid block, ornament softening into shadow along every cornice and dome. The composition reads like scenery set apart on a vast stage. A hallway or reading nook with pale walls would give this cold harmony room to breathe.
