Le Héros

A lone figure strides forward, arms raised, head thrown back as if singing into the wind. Louis Soutter titled it Le Héros, and the drawing delivers on the name. The line work is restless and wiry, built from looping strokes that never quite settle. Ink and pencil press hard in the torso, then scatter into open, breathing white space around the limbs. The face is all urgency, eyes wide, mouth open, caught mid-charge. Dark hatching pools behind the body like a shadow that cannot keep up. Soutter drew heroes the way outsiders draw them, from pure compulsion rather than training. That raw energy suits a study, a hallway, or any room where you want courage on the wall.
