Lava Gorge at Thingvellir, Autumn

Lava rock walls drop sheer into the gorge at Thingvellir, autumn light pooling rust and ochre across the fissure floor. Asgrimur Jonsson paints the rift where Iceland visibly tears apart. The Almannagja fault runs through the composition as a corridor of weathered basalt, its ledges built up in thick, loaded strokes of umber and grey-green. Dwarf birch burns copper along the rims. Far off, the lake at Thingvallavatn sits flat under a pale sky. A study or hallway with strong daylight suits it well; the cool stone and warm autumn canopy hold their own against plain timber and linen.
