Landscape with Ruins

Broken stone arches lean into an olive grove, the kind of scene Artachino returned to again and again. Landscape with Ruins gathers weathered masonry, grass and sky into one quiet afternoon. Sun-bleached ochre covers the old walls where plaster has fallen away, exposing rough limestone blocks beneath. Pale green foliage climbs through a collapsed window. Above, clouds move in loose strokes of grey and cream, and the shadow side of every ruin runs cool and violet. Brushwork stays loose, almost dry, letting canvas texture show through the thinnest passages. A reading nook or a hallway with aged wood furniture would sit well beside these warm stones and soft light.
