Landscape with Lake

A still lake sits low in the frame, its surface broken by long horizontal strokes of slate and pale green. Landscape with Lake holds the water quiet while everything above it moves. Trees cluster along the far bank in dark olive and burnt umber, their reflections dissolving into the water in smeared verticals. Pallady drags the brush dry across the shore, letting underlayers of violet and grey show through, and the sky carries thin bands of cream and dusty rose where light has already begun to leave.
