Landscape with Chapel

A small white chapel rises among rolling hills, the sole built thing in a vast Nicholas Roerich landscape. Its domed roof catches pale light while the land around it breathes in tempera-soft greens and blues. Look closely and the paint sits thin and matte, layered in broad, unhurried strokes. Moss greens deepen into pine shadow at the treeline, and above everything a wide sky shifts from milky horizon to a cool, weighty blue. The chapel itself is little more than a brushstroke of lead white, yet it anchors the whole composition. Suited to a quiet study or reading nook where a contemplative mood belongs.
