Landscape with Birches

White birches rise in loose clusters, trunks catching pale light against a soft blue sky. This is Landscape with Birches by Konstantin Yuon, the Russian painter who found grandeur in quiet northern ground. Look closely and the brushwork opens up: dabs of ochre and moss green build the meadow floor, while the birch bark reads in quick strokes of ivory and grey, each trunk leaning at its own angle. The canopy scatters into small leaves of green and gold, letting sky flicker through the branches. Yuon keeps the palette cool and airy, the composition open, the ground warm beneath all that light.
