Landscape with Birch Trees

White trunks climb through the frame, their bark rendered in pale slashes against deep green undergrowth. Vilhelms Purvitis builds his Landscape with Birch trees around these slim verticals, the slender forms standing shoulder to shoulder like a choir at rest. The canopy thins at the top, letting cool northern light spill onto the forest floor below, where moss and scattered leaves catch small pockets of gold. Brushwork stays loose in the foliage, tighter along each trunk, and the palette holds to birch white, pine green and a grey Latvian sky glimpsed between branches. A quiet woodland scene that settles easily into a study, a hallway, or any room that needs a breath of northern air.
