Landscape

A dirt lane runs between stubble fields toward a line of poplars, the sky pressing low and pale above. Landscape by Stefan Luchian reads the Romanian plain in restrained post-impressionist color. Oil paint sits thin across the middle distance, dragged in short horizontal strokes that turn the fields from ochre to grayed green. Shadow runs violet under the tree line, and the foreground lane carries heavier pigment, loaded brushwork catching the light.
