Landscape

Low hills roll toward a pale sky, and the eye follows a dirt track until it dissolves at the horizon. Nikolay Bogdanov-Belsky painted the Russian countryside with the patience of someone who walked it. This landscape keeps that unhurried pace. Greens sit close to grey, meadow grass gone dry at the edges. Birch trunks catch whatever light the clouds let through.
