Landscape

Low hills roll under a heavy sky in this Landscape by Istvan Nagy. Fields break into patches of olive green and dusty umber, painted in thick, deliberate strokes that keep the hand of the artist visible across the whole surface. Nagy, a painter rooted in the Hungarian countryside, treated rural ground as serious subject matter rather than backdrop. Look closely and the brushwork tightens along fence lines and tree clusters, while the foreground loosens into broad sweeps of ochre and greyed green.
