Landscape in Semmering

Green meadow rolls downward toward the timber roofs of Semmering, and Koloman Moser flattens the whole alpine view into bands of color. Mountains stack behind one another in softening blues while the foreground holds a darker, quieter green. Look closely and the brushwork shows itself: short, deliberate strokes that build the hillside the way a mosaicist sets tesserae, each patch of tone fitting against the next. The sky sits pale and uncluttered, so the ridgelines carry every ounce of drama. It reads as much design as scenery, true to the Vienna Secession instinct to compose rather than merely record.
