Green meadows roll toward a line of trees in this Gustave Loiseau landscape, fields rendered in loose strokes of sap green and olive that flicker across the surface. Loiseau built his surfaces through short, enameled dabs of oil paint, a crosshatched touch learned from the Seine-side painters he showed beside. Patches of buttercup yellow break through the grass, shadows run violet across a slope, and a pale sky occupies half the composition in washes of cream and cloud grey. Best hung where daylight shifts, a hallway or dining room, so the painted rhythm of the fields keeps moving.
