Landscape from Provence

Cypress trees climb the left edge of Landscape from Provence, dark spires against a hillside that Stefan Popescu renders in loose, sun-struck strokes. The composition opens outward from that shadowed column into open country. Terracotta and ochre dominate the middle ground, laid down in visible dabs that read as rooftop, field, and dry stone wall. Above them the sky holds a pale, milky blue, thinned almost to white at the horizon. Short horizontal strokes suggest wind moving through wheat. A distant ridge stays violet gray, softened by heat haze. This southern French vista belongs in a sunlit breakfast room or a hallway that catches afternoon light, where its warm earth tones can carry the whole wall.
