A broad river bends through golden afternoon light, its surface broken by slow reflections. Land of the Golden Fleece shows Arthur Streeton working at full command of Australian heat and open distance. Pale blue sky thins to almost white at the horizon. Timber fences cross grassed paddocks in quick, dry strokes, and dark river gums anchor one bank while pale trunks catch sun on the other. Distant hills dissolve into haze, painted in washes of violet grey and dusted gold.
