Lake Vular

Still water holds the center of Lake Vular, a Nicholas Roerich composition where a mirrored lake lies flat between dark, rounded foothills. The surface barely ripples. Cold ultramarine deepens toward the far shore while pale sky reflections spread in broad, unhurried strokes across the foreground. Low hills in bruised umber and violet frame the water on both sides, and a thin band of light traces the shoreline where land meets reflection. Roerich tempera surfaces like this carry a chalky, matte texture, every layer visible in the grain. Suited to a quiet study or a hallway that catches evening light.
