About this work

Lake of the Nagas. Kashmir

Still water holds the valley floor in Lake of the Nagas. Kashmir, a Nicholas Roerich landscape where serpent guardians of Himalayan legend are said to dwell beneath the surface. Above the lake, Kashmiri peaks gather in planes of cobalt and ultramarine, their snowfields laid on thick, almost chalky. The shoreline reads in muted earth tones, ochre and slate, broken by low trees painted with quick dark strokes. Sky and water share the same deep blue, so the mountains seem to float between two mirrors. A quiet presence for a study or reading nook, where calm water and cold air can be lived with daily.
