Lake Nag

Water lies flat as poured glass. Lake Nag by Nicholas Roerich holds a high-altitude tarn in the foreground, its surface mirroring peaks that burn rose and ochre under thin mountain air. Roerich builds the scene in broad tempera planes: cobalt ridges step back into distance, snowfields pale to near white, and the lake itself carries only a muted reflection, cool teal shading into slate along the shore. Empty ground frames the water, emphasizing the silence between slopes. Suited to a study or reading room where quiet, cool-toned landscape gives the eye somewhere far to travel.
