Lahaul

Lahaul names a valley, and Nicholas Roerich paints it as a wall of blue shadow, mountains heaped ridge upon ridge toward a cold summit. The scene opens at the valley floor, where the peaks close in. Tempera gives the range its dry, powdery surface, color laid in flat planes that catch no sunlight. Cobalt deepens into violet where the slopes turn away, and a band of pale sky holds the highest crests against it. Nothing moves: no figures, no trees, only rock and snow distilled to geometry. A reading nook or quiet study suits a view this still, somewhere the eye can rest on distance.
