Lahaul

Valley of Lahaul stretches beneath a range of hard-edged peaks, painted by Nicholas Roerich during his Himalayan years. The ridgeline sits low in the frame, leaving sky to do the talking. Snow reads almost white against slopes of deep ultramarine, each facet sharpened by a single contour. Down in the valley, small dark shapes suggest scattered settlements and the thin line of a road threading between them. The air itself feels thin and cold, held in bands of violet and cerulean where distance dissolves the farther ridges. It belongs in a quiet study or reading room, somewhere the eye can rest on open distance after a long day.
