Laguna Rocks, Low Tide

Wet stone fills the foreground, tide pulled back and every ridge of the rock left bare to the light. Guy Rose recorded the Laguna shoreline at that brief hour when the reef shows itself. Salt-white crust tops the stone, and beneath it the rock runs violet, rose, and greenish gray where the water has just let go. His brushwork is short and loaded, broken color doing the work of glare on a receding tide. A coastal study that settles naturally into a sunroom or a seaside reading room, anywhere the horizon feels close.
