Laggan Farm Buildings near Dalbeattie

Whitewashed steading under a big Dumfriesshire sky: Laggan Farm Buildings near Dalbeattie, painted by Samuel Peploe with the clear-eyed order he brought to every landscape. The gables and byres sit low against the horizon, their white walls picked out in thick strokes of cream and pale grey. Green fields run in bands of emerald and sage toward the treeline, while shadows fall cool and blue across the yard. The brushwork stays brisk and structured, each block of colour doing honest work. Suited to a country kitchen, a stone-floored hallway, or any room that wants a breath of the Solway coast.
