Ladakh. Sunset

Ladakh. Sunset. Nicholas Roerich paints the Himalayan dusk as a wall of fire above the mountains: vermilion and rose bleeding upward into a sky already cooling toward indigo. Below the burning horizon, bare ridgelines sit nearly black, their silhouettes drawn in one flat unhesitating sweep. The valley floor holds the last of the light, a thin ribbon of ochre along the slope. Roerich tempura technique reads here in smooth, layered passages, the color thinning as it climbs. A quiet study or reading nook wants this kind of silence, where evening color can hold the room at rest.
