La Jolla Arbor

Bougainvillea spills across a rough lath trellis at the garden edge, and La Jolla Arbor holds that tumble of magenta in broken California light, Guy Rose working fully en plein air. Thick impasto builds the blossoms in dabs of crimson and shell pink, while cool violet shadow gathers beneath the bench. Eucalyptus leaves turn silvery green against a sliver of Pacific blue, and the trellis slats lean at an easy, hand-built angle. Salt haze softens the horizon. Hang it where afternoon sun actually enters, a sunroom or a reading nook with a wicker chair, and the blooms seem to keep growing past the edges.
