Külváros

Rooftops and chimney stacks climb a hillside at the edge of town. Külváros, Scheiber Hugó renders the outskirts of a Hungarian city as a stacked mosaic of small houses, angled roofs and leaning fences pressed close together. Slate grey and soot black dominate the upper blocks while lower facades warm into ochre and rusted brick red. Perspective tilts gently, so streets bend uphill and windows multiply in tight rhythm. Narrow gaps of sky break the density, and a few bare poles or trees thread between buildings, giving the crowded district its lived-in, working-day texture. Hang it in a study or a hallway where dense composition rewards long, close looking.
