Krakow Medical Society House Stained Glass Window

Deep crimson and cobalt panes fill a stained glass window made for the Krakow Medical Society House, where Stanislaw Wyspianski turned a professional hall into a chamber of colored light. The composition rises through leaded compartments, each field set with stylized botanical forms and flat, heraldic planes of color. Glass of this kind depends on darkness behind it, and the deep ruby against midnight blue carries that logic, holding the eye at the joints where the lead lines thicken. Wyspianski, a painter and playwright of the Young Poland movement, treated glazing as architecture, not ornament. It belongs in a study, stairwell landing, or reading nook where side light can pass through.
