Krakow Medical Society House, Stained Glass Window

Stained glass in deep cobalt and amber fills the window of the Krakow Medical Society House, a design Stanisław Wyspiański drew for the physician brothers and their Kraków atelier. Thick lead lines hold panels of jewel-toned glass: cobalt pooling at the edges, amber burning through the center, pale opalescent panes where figures of healing and learning stand in profile. The drawing is Wyspiański at full confidence, every contour doubled and outlined in black, faces flattened to heraldic calm, ornament coiling around the borders like vine tendrils cut from lead came. A stairwell landing or a physician reading room would carry this light well, anywhere a north-facing wall wants color that never fades with the hour.
