Krajobraz

Ruszczyc paints a landscape with the weight of a held breath. Krajobraz shows a broad tract of earth under a heavy sky, the kind of view a walker stops for on a cold afternoon. Tall trees rise dark against the pale light, their trunks drawn in thick, loaded strokes of umber and olive. The ground carries bruised greens and wet ochre, brushed in broad, confident passes. Clouds bank low, grey and swollen, pressing down on the horizon line. Every patch of paint has direction, following the lie of the land. A view like this suits a study or a reading room, somewhere with leather chairs and a north window, where the brooding silence of the Polish countryside can settle in.
