Kislovodsk

Blue peaks climb above a green valley in Kislovodsk, the Caucasus spa town Pyotr Konchalovsky painted with an appetite for distance. Snow light rests along the highest ridges. Short loaded strokes of oil build the slopes, violet shadow pooling in every fold of the foothills. Ochre paths wind up toward white town walls, and the sky deepens from pale horizon blue into a heavy overhead cobalt. Nothing is smoothed; the brush stays visible throughout.
