Kazbek

Kazbek under snow, all glacier and scree, the Caucasus summit Pyotr Konchalovsky raised in heavy pigment against a pale, hard sky. That crown keeps its light long after the valleys have gone dim. Brushwork loads the drifts with violet shadow and cobalt fissures, strokes of raw white left thick as rime on stone. Rocky spurs run below in ochre and umber, and the peak flares gold where high sun strikes the ice. Every ridge is built, not sketched. A stairwell or north-lit study suits it best. Shifting daylight deepens the blues, and the room cools as evening comes on.
