Kazbek takes the dawn alone. Pyotr Konchalovsky fixes that hour, five in the morning, when only the summit is lit and the whole valley below still sleeps. Cold violet shadow pools in the folds of the lower slopes while the snowfield above turns rose and pale gold. Brushwork sits thick on the surface, every facet of rock and glacier given its own slab of color, until the massif reads like built architecture. A study or stairwell with cool north light suits it; the deep blues settle a room, and that single burning crest keeps pulling the eye upward.
