Kangchenjunga

The great massif of Kangchenjunga rises above a sea of mist, its five summits rendered by Nicholas Roerich in deep blues that deepen toward an almost indigo sky. This reproduction captures one of his Himalayan meditations on the sacred mountain. Cold light strikes the ridgelines while shadow pools in the valleys below, painted in layered tempera tones of violet, cobalt, and bone white. The peaks seem lit from within, a quality Roerich achieved through thin, luminous veils of pigment rather than heavy brushwork. Below the snowline, dark foothills and a strip of pale glacier ground the composition. Suited to a study or reading room, a quiet place where mountain stillness can hold the light.
