Kangchenjunga

Five summits of Kangchenjunga rise through an avalanche of snow, their ridgelines catching the last cold light of day. Nicholas Roerich painted the sacred peak as a living presence, not a backdrop. Tempera layers build the mountain from bone-white and glacier blue, the snowfields laid in broad, flat strokes while shadow hollows deepen toward violet and indigo. Below, dark foothills recede in strips of ochre and slate, and the sky above holds that intense, weightless blue Roerich found only at altitude. Every edge stays hard; the light does the softening. A quiet study or hallway gallery suits it well, anywhere a horizon of high peaks can hold the eye in silence.
