Jug with Yellow Daffodils

Daffodils crowd a squat ceramic jug, their trumpet cups tipped toward the light. Felix Vallotton paints the bouquet up close, petals in lemon and cream against a cool, muted ground. The metal jug catches a hard highlight along its rim, its body dented and plain. Behind the flowers, dark greens and slate blues keep the composition taut. Creamy strokes build each petal while shadow pools at the jug base. Suited to a dining room or kitchen wall where something fresh and domestic belongs.
