Juan-les-Pins Landscape

Pine trees crowd the shoreline at Juan-les-Pins, their dark needles pressed against a sky the color of bleached linen. Theodor Pallady captures the Riviera coast without postcard sweetness. The palette runs on olive green, chalk white, and a salt-faded blue that carries the sea into the hills. Brushwork is loose and loaded, each stroke of paint holding its own weight, so the pines read almost as silhouettes cut from a single dark mass. Light sits flat and even, the kind you get at midday on the Mediterranean when shadows shrink to nothing. A sunroom or a seaside guest room wants this southern coastline hanging where the light is already warm.
