Hilltowns rise in tempera planes of olive and rose, the subject of Nicholas Roerich painting titled Italy. Roofs cluster along a ridge while the valley below cools toward violet haze. Cypress spires break the skyline at intervals, their dark verticals answered by pale roads winding uphill.
