Italian Landscape with Cypresses

Two dark cypresses rise like flames against an Italian hillside, anchoring the composition in vertical shadow while the land rolls out golden and quiet beneath them. Italian Landscape with Cypresses belongs to the Stanislaw Chlebowski collection. Ochre fields give way to dusty greens along a ridge of low buildings, their rooflines dissolving into a hazy, pale sky. The paint sits in soft, layered strokes, warmth pooled around the base of each tree while cool distance opens beyond the ridge.
