Irish Cottage

A thatched cottage holds the whole hillside in its shadow. Robert Henri painted Irish Cottage on Achill Island, where whitewashed gables and turf smoke anchored his summers. Thatch runs in thick horizontal strokes, browns and umbers laid on wet. Dry stone walls cross the field in quick greys, and the doorway sits dark against sunlit plaster. A low sky presses down, painted in fast slate and pearl passes. Grass around the dooryard flickers with short yellow jabs. Henri kept the brushwork raw, each mark visible, the way Atlantic weather keeps everything exposed. This suits a study or reading nook where rough textures and muted color feel at home.

A stretched canvas: the image is printed on a cotton-polyester weave (300–350 gsm) and wrapped over FSC-certified wood stretcher bars. A hanging kit is included, so no frame or extra hardware is needed.

Dust with a soft, dry cloth only — avoid water or cleaning products on the canvas face — and keep it out of direct sunlight and away from radiators.

As a guide, a piece hung above furniture should span roughly two-thirds of that furniture width. If you are between two sizes, the larger option almost always reads better on the wall than expected.

Every piece is made to order, then shipped free with tracking. US and Europe/UK orders typically arrive in 4–9 business days; Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore and the UAE in 7–16 business days. A tracking link is emailed as soon as it ships. Full details are on our shipping policy.

Orders within the US, UK and EU are domestic and do not incur customs fees. Orders to our extended network (Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, UAE) may be subject to import duties or VAT set by your local customs authority — these are not collected by us.
