Iridescent Interpenetration

Comma-shaped color wedges pierce one another across the entire surface, violet folding into yellow, yellow slicing back through green. Iridescent Interpenetration by Giacomo Balla treats light as a moving body, nothing solid left to anchor it. The wedges overlap like sheets of glass held up to sun, each one translucent where it crosses the next. Prussian blue sits at the edges while acid green and pale rose radiate toward the center, and the brushwork follows the direction of every shaft, so the pigment itself seems to travel. Balla built the Futurist idea of penetration here: forms pass through forms, time passes through matter. A modernist staircase or a sunlit studio gives these oscillating wedges the wall they deserve.
