Iona

Iona rocks rise from a pale Hebridean sea, the island itself a low wedge of green and rose against a sky brushed in broad, cool strokes. Sunlight splits the shallows into strips of turquoise and white, shadows crossing the sand in violet. Peploe lays the land in with dry, loaded pigment, letting the canvas grain show through. Grass sits emerald against the mauve of distant headlands, and the water edge reads almost mint. A study or coastal hallway gains real presence from this Scottish Colourist seascape, its marine palette settling easily beside pale timber and linen.
