Iona, Pink Rocks

Rose granite boulders anchor the foreground of Iona, Pink Rocks, a Hebridean seascape in which Samuel Peploe trusts pure colour to carry everything. Sunlight flattens the forms; nothing here is grey. The sea runs from shallow turquoise over white sand to deep peacock offshore, each band laid in with a loaded brush and edged in dark outline. Violet shadow sits cool beneath the sunlit stone, and a grass-green headland closes the distance on the horizon. Hang it in a stairwell, a coastal living room, or a bright hallway, anywhere that wants the shock of open water and Atlantic air.
