Iona Landscape

Rocks, sea and sky divide Iona Landscape into bold planes of colour, Samuel Peploe building the island from thick, deliberate strokes. Grass leans jade against a shoreline of chalky pink stone. The water sits shallow and pale where it meets white sand. Beyond, a headland blocks the horizon in slate and cobalt. Everything is simplified, outlined, pushed toward pattern, the way Scottish Colourism handled a Hebridean afternoon: no soft haze, no fog, just clean edges and colour doing all the work. A room with plain plaster walls and low daylight suits it, a hallway or reading nook where the greens and blues stay crisp.
