Iolă

A woman turns toward the light, head wrapped in pale cloth, one hand raised to her collar. Michel Simonidy names her Iolă and gives the portrait the hush of a stage moment caught mid-breath. The garment reads as heavy silk, painted in greys and deep violets that fold into near-black shadow at the waist. Warm flesh tones carry the face and throat, where a thin glaze of light runs along the cheekbone and the curve of the neck. Behind her the ground stays dark and unbroken, so every edge of the figure is drawn by contrast rather than line. Brushwork in the cloth is broad and loaded; the face is worked finer, almost dry. A dim hallway or a reading nook with one low lamp suits her well.
