Interior cu Garoafe

Carnations crowd a shallow interior, their ragged pink and wine red heads stacked against a dimmed room. Stefan Luchian painted this still life, Interior cu Garoafe, with flowers packed so tight the vase nearly disappears. The brushwork turns thick and loaded in the petals, each bloom built from short stabs of rose, crimson, and bruised mauve. Behind them the wall sinks into olive and umber shadow, cool where the flowers burn. A pale table edge anchors the composition and lets the garoafe carry all the color in the room. Suits a dining room or a quiet hallway that needs one strong note of red.
